I think the moment where he perhaps became an icon of pop culture combined with a touch of self-parody is when South Park did its “Fightin’ Around the World with Russell Crowe” episode.

Yes, but in the grand scheme of things, barely anyone saw L.A. Confidential. Which is a shame, because it’s one of my all-time favorites!
