Digest time.
It’s a little strange when you learn that two people you’ve known since college (but have had only sparse contact with in the time intervening) have not only been going out for seven years, but just got engaged! This is what I found out when I went to a “Welcome to Seattle” party tonight that ended up being an impromptu engagement celebration. Congratulations, Angela and Roan!
Lovely package arrived this afternoon from CD Baby, containing recently ordered CDs. You know you’re dealing with a special company when the confirmation e-mail reads like this:
Your CDs have been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.A team of 50 employees inspected your CDs and polished them to make sure they were in the best possible condition before mailing. Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CDs into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved ‘Bon Voyage!’ to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Friday, July 5th.I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as “Customer of the Year”. We’re all exhausted but can’t wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!
Hee!
- In another coincidence, James at the Laboratorium has a new essay on the nature of popular culture, spurred on by the whole Taco Bell “Le Package Total” advertising campaign that brought me much embarrassment not two days ago.
- Zannah posted a link to a guy who makes mathematical structures out of Lego bricks. I haven’t done much of the blog-virus thing, but this is just really cool (not to mention a bit scary).
- An article in the Seattle Times about one scientist’s plan to build a 62,000-mile long elevator into space. Going up, anybody?
One last thing: B. has scary teacher’s exams coming up on Saturday, and is really stressed out. Everyone please send lucky thoughts! They’ll be appreciated.

Angela! Holy crap, what fantastic news! I should start reading Neon Epiphany every time I want a happy jolt out of the blue…
